The Annual Match Against Windermere Golf Club
To celebrate the two clubs long histories together we have an annual match between Kendal and Windermere. The clubs take it in turn to host the event. To enter you sign-up in the clubhouse and the Captain pairs his team members up to take on their opponents from Windermere. The format is better ball match-play. This is always a very friendly event and the two teams sit down to a 2 course meal together before the captains announce the winning team and who will be keeping the trophy for that season. This is always a fun day in the golfing calendar.
The Inter-Club
This is an annual match between Appleby, Kendal and Windermere.
The team consists of 8 seniors, 4 vets and 4 juniors.
If you are not lucky enough to play for the team then you can make the most of the opportunity on the day and receive courtesy at either Windermere or Appleby.
The Scratch Team
Kendal Golf Club enter an “A” and a “B” team into the Cumbria scratch league. The scratch teams are organised by Sam Doidge and consist of six players in each team. The standard of play in the scratch team is very high, most in the A team are 4 handicap and below and those in the B team are 6 handicap and below. We also enter two teams into the Inter-Club Stroke Play and two teams into the Inter Club Match Play.
The Scratch team are proud to be sponsored by “The Sidas Clinic” who provide the team kit for both the “A” and the “B” team.
Men’s Golf Competitions
The Men’s competitions take place every Saturday and are always very well supported.
All men’s competitions are entered through the BRS system on the website.
Captains Drive In – The start of the season kicks off with the Captains Drive in normally the first Sunday in March which is a shot gun start.
Braithwaite Cup – The first major competition of the season is the Braithwaite cup which 36 hole event on Good Friday, this is a great way to get your season going.
Jubilee Cup – This is played the first Sunday in June and is a 36 hole competition. This is your chance to qualify for the club championship, intermediate club championship and the second division club championship. The best 8 gross scores on the day go through and play knockout competitions after that.
Captains Day and Presidents Day – The major competitions are Captains Day which is normally in June and Presidents Day which is normally in July. These are very popular competitions and we have a function in the evening with over 100 people in the clubhouse attending the prize giving’s.
Charles Cumpstey – This is our 36 hole open competition, there are prizes for the best net scores and best gross scores. Players from all over the County come to play.
Thursday Medals and Stablefords – Every alternative week throughout summer we have a Thursday Medal and then the following week we have a Stableford that ladies can play in.
Open Competitions – Throughout the season there are four open competitions for people outside the club to play. These are the Serpentine Centenary Medal, Advancement Bowl, James Taylor Trophy and Corporation Bowl,
Foursomes Knockout – For this competition you enter in pairs on the sheet in the clubhouse in April and then a draw is done.
Singles Knockout – There is a qualifier for this at the start of the season and the top 64 players go through and play a knockout.
F.R. Watson Putter – There is a qualifier at the start of the season where the top 16 players qualify and then go forwards and play match play after that.
Victory Cup – There is a qualifier at the start of the season where the top 8 players qualify and then go forwards and play match play after that.
Lombard Qualifier – This is a qualifier where the person with the best nett score on the day goes through and plays with the professional in the first round of the Lombard Qualifer.
Finals day – This is played on the first Sunday in September. It is where all of those that are lucky to qualify for the final of a matchplay competition play their final. This is where the final of the club championship is played, intermediate championship, second division club championship, singles knockout, victory cup, F.R. Watson and the foursomes knockout. Finals day attracts many people to watch.
Winter Pro’s Competitions – The Professional organises Saturday competitions throughout Winter for the men so competitive golf is always available. These tend to be four ball better ball stablefords along with revised formats such as both players to count on the par 3’s or odd holes or last 4 holes. Each week the winning team qualify for the winter final which is normally the last Saturday in March. Members are allowed to invite guests to play in the pro’s competitions from other clubs. If you win a competition you loose 2 shots from your winter handicap and if you come second you loose 1 shot.
